Adapting The Wizard of Oz: Musical Versions from Baum to MGM and Beyond

I co-edited this book with my former PhD student, Dr Danielle Birkett. We set out to examine the legacy of The Wizard of Oz as a musical, looking at musical adaptations from the early twentieth century through to Wicked. We were lucky to have contributions from colleagues across the world and across different disciplines, including musicology (Professor Walter Frisch and Professor Paul Laird) and dance (Claudia Funder). My own chapter looks at stage adaptations of the celebrated MGM film, including versions by Andrew Lloyd Webber and the RSC.
